Steven, personal accolade for me about The King is I

Your stuff is good and different

Ted Taylor

editor of the Eugene Weekly

The comic series is about my life growing up being dyslexic and trying my very best to socialize and in most cases ultimately failing to do so. It is hard enough to fit in with all the peer groups of human who mingle together, each group has their social order. Now most dyslexic people like my self skip equations, like making friends with the woman before asking her out, or missing steps in solving a math problem, or just trying to fit in or not be seen.

07-01-2007 Comic published on the Democratic daily website.

Various Viewer comments:

I'm not sure I would be the best critique for your comic because I draw a very different genre and style of comic art, but I'll say what I can. My skills improved over the years by reading a lot of books by different comic artists illustrators. It helps a lot. I can compare the first chapter of my comic to the second chapter and see quite a bit of improvement.

I would try reading parts of a cartooning book and then going back over your comic and seeing if there is anything you want to redraw. It is not too difficult to cut out a piee of paper the same size as one of your panels and redraw a panel over that.

Conceptually however, I have great admiration for the story and plot of your comic. I have a form of autism called aspergers syndrome, which is probabally not nearly as hard to cope with as dyslexia, but I still remember much of the pressure from the jocks, nerds and other social groups that placed high demands on their comrades.

keep drawing

akasteveI tried the link and it was broken. So I just went to sroachart.com and that worked. It was just strange and twisted enough to make me laugh out loud. Not an easy thing to do Thanks : )

Steven, that was good, but it's too big for the page
and if I shrink it, they can't read the words.

What Really happened
Yes, much better. Remember that cartoons may be a visual art form, but they are still "read", so the easier they are to read the more the public will appreciate the artwork.

Nice one, Steven.

I don't think I get most of the cartoon because it's a local issue but I can tell what you're getting at. Keep it up, and keep drawing cartoons. If I were you, I wouldn't label "troth," did you mean "trough?" Either way, you can tell that's what you drew so you don't need it on the actual object.

Also, I would hand-letter the type and dialogue. Computer type never looks good for a print cartoon, in my opinion.

Good luck!
